Customise how product variations display
Choose how size, colour, and material options appear on your product pages — a compact dropdown, tappable pills, colour swatches, or an image grid. Pick what fits your catalogue.
When a product comes in different sizes, colours or materials, the way those options are presented changes how easily shoppers choose — and whether they buy. Crate lets you set one display style for variant selectors across your whole storefront, with a live mini-preview of each option so you can pick with confidence.
The four styles
The choice depends on what kind of variants you sell:
- Dropdown — compact, one row per option. Best when a product has many sizes and screen space is tight.
- Pill buttons — tappable chips. Ideal for 2–6 options of the same type, like S / M / L / XL.
- Colour swatches — round colour dots. Use these when colour is the variant and shoppers choose by sight.
- Image grid — per-variant thumbnails. Great for apparel and anything where each variant has its own photo.
A store-wide preference
This is a single, store-wide setting — it applies to every product page at once, so your storefront stays consistent. The data lives on your store, so switching styles is instant and never touches the products themselves. Change it as often as you like; the new style is live the moment you save.

Open Catalog settings
From the dashboard, open Catalog → Catalog settings in the sidebar. This is where store-wide product display preferences live.

Find Product variation view
The Product variation view card controls how variant options render on every product page. Each option shows a mini preview so you can see the difference at a glance.

Pick a display style
Choose the style that suits your products — Dropdown for many sizes, Pill buttons for a few options, Colour swatches when colour is the variant, or Image grid when variants have their own photos.

Save your choice
Click Save catalog settings. Crate confirms with Catalog settings updated and the new style applies across your storefront immediately.
